'Fast and Furious' Trailer, Plus 'Riddick' and 'Lost' Updates for Diesel and Rodriguez

There are more Fast and Furious updates than we can shake a stick at. First, as the seven of you who paid to see Death Race this weekend already know, the new trailer for next summer's Vin Diesel-Paul Walker reunion flick has debuted. MySpace has the cleanest copy I've seen of it, so we decided to go with this one instead of the pirated copies on YouTube (most of which don't have sound).

The best thing about it, with apologies to those who think Jordana Brewster's still on the way up, is the tagline. That's not saying a whole lot. Of course, then again, removing my critic hat, I kind of dug the racing in Tokyo Drift for what it was. The plot was crap, but it was still a lot more entertaining as a viewer than anything in 2 Fast 2 Furious. The director of the third film, Justin Lin, returns for part four, as does the original cast. My expectations aren't too high, although it should do pretty well at the box office; it's two weeks after Terminator and the week before A-Team (at least that's the tentative line-up), so there's an opportunity to start strong and end quietly.

The other updates are about two of the film's stars, and both stories were funneled through \film. Vin Diesel spoke to MTV recently and confirmed the he's hoping for two Riddick sequels.

Why? That's the question I and Universal both have. They're not interested and neither am I. But Diesel says they'll get made and will possibly be filmed concurrently. If you care at all about story specifics, check out the MTV article.

The most exciting news out of Fast and Furiousville today is Entertainment Weekly's discovery that Michelle Rodriguez will return to Lost. For my money, she was the best character in all of season two, in part because she was so polarizing. and had she been given a longer storyline, she could have been one of the best characters on the whole show. "Best" and "most likable" are mutually exclusive terms, of course, but she was divisive within  the story and certainly among its many fans. She stirred things up when the show needed that influence. Incidentally, if you think there's a more interesting person on Lost than Benjamin Linus at this point, you's all crazy.

How will she return? As if Damon Lindeloff would tell us now? EW says she's likely to return in the second episode of the season, and that it's a one-off. So, think flashback. My hunch is that she's somehow connected to Jack's father/Claire's father, since the second part of that subplot just got rolling. We know she was on the plane, we know she met Jack at the airport, and we know nobody else from the original cast knew who she was. At least I think I remember that correctly.

Just a hunch. Everybody's tied to Jack somehow.

Correction sir, that was the first Fast and the Furious preview I have seen and liked since the original.
The begging heist was just the right amount of over the top.

Also we need more Riddick, but I like the character, and enjoyed the movies, which is to say Riddick still needs a good movie, and my opinion will probably always be just that.

This was an exciting trailer. This movie looks more interesting than 2F2F and Tokyo Drift. Its nice to have all the original cast back... BTW is the movie completely done with Production?
P.s.
I would also love to a new Riddick sometime in the very near future..

I hope he does more riddick films as most people liked the first one. It really depends on financing though as he would need to see what the dvd sales of Chronicles Of Riddick were. He should have made them instead of awful films like that babysitter one or the man apart film..

The Chronicles of Riddick is a good film. It establishes a universe of its own and makes it believable for the most part. Some scenes at Helion Prime were not perfect but for the most part it was credible. Twohy gaves us something a little bit different with Pitch Black and Chronicles and I'm sure he'll do it again.

RIddick 2&3 Have to be more bad ass Like Pitch Black & The Escape from butcher Bay GAme. He has to be more ruthless like he was in Pitch Black. RAted R & The Story has to be better than CHronicles Part 1 which was good but not like pitch black, Cuz Chronicles tried to make him a Hero when he has to clearly be Anti-Hero & Murderous

I just wanted to correct you on your tangental points about Lost.

Benjamin Linus is easily one of the top five most interesting characters in the history of television, not just the history of that show.

Also, I think Michelle Rodriguez was polarizing because most of us don't like her, not necessarily the character. I understand your point about "best" and "most likable" being different, but I think the problem many fans have is with the actress (and I use that term loosely).

In my humble opinion, Mr. Eco was by far the most interesting new character of season 2. Unfortunately, his character arc played out way too quickly and there was nothing else to do but kill him off.

To be frank, Chronicles of Riddick destroyed everything that was original and interesting about Pitch Black by turning it into yet another predictable, tiresome Science Fiction movie about the equally predictable 'anti-hero with a heart of gold', Token Girl he could restrainedly be sappy over and predictably perform a Bond-esque girlfriend death, and Evil Zombie Army from Outer Space. Some of the special effects were amusing. That was all that worked. And he wants to make *more*?

Chronicles of Riddick was creative in the sense that it invented new worlds, new races, new beings, new societies, new history and new politics. It wasn't a perfect film and neither was Pitch Black, but it was good enough for a sequel. I don't think the total anti-hero thing would have worked a second time. Total anti-social behaviour is not very interesting. I think Riddick's duality in Chronicles is more interesting to work with.

If we can't have another Serinity Movie, then a sequel to The Fifth Element would be far more interesting than anything Riddick could do...

Justin Lin is type-cast as director more-so than Jay Chandrasekhar.

Does anyone know if Paul Walker is available?

I found an actual clear trailer for Fast and Furious courtesy of TrailerAddict.com. Super clear. Riddick can go in so many directions so i guess i could stomach 1 more.

Why would we need another Serenity? The first one sucked just fine.

Michelle on Lost again!? I must agree she brought something interesting to that show. I think people didn't like her character because she was extremely misunderstood. But, I agree that if she would have more time to develop, Ana Lucia would have made for an extremely interesting character. I loved her in season 2. Love the idea of her coming back, even if, for only one episode. Keep rocking Michelle!!

Honestly, Chronicles of Riddick was one of the worst, least imaginitive turds in the scifi realm. The thing with Riddick is that the character has/had WAY more potential than the CoR script.

People like that character enough to watch more, but the script has to be muc, much better. "Helion Prime in the Helion System", "Crematoria" for the planet that's really hot, "Necromonger"... jeez. You gotta do a lot better than that.

I really like Vin, I think he gets a bad rap because his films aren't written to the calibre that they should be.

I'll keep watching the Fast & Furious franchise because if nothing else, I get cool car scenes. Beyond that, this one has the original cast, which at least gives them some built in chemistry from the start.

I heard that Letty's character dies in fast and furious, is that true?? Cuz i will be waaaayyy pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her character, shes bad a**, and is perfect for the male bad a**'s girlfriend. It would ruin the movie for me.

Fast and Furious sequel with the original cast..finally!! Geesh.

As for the whole Michelle Rodriguez thing. It showed she was connected to Jack's father, he paid for her to go to Australia with him and she drove him around and was supposed to "protect him". She drove him to a bar where she saw (and Jack's father) Sawyer, she drove him to Claire's aunt's house. Then in one episode her partner questions Hurley and asks Hurley if he met her on the plane/island. Not sure if there are any other connections then that.
