'Zombieland': Not the Happiest Place on Earth

harrelson1.jpgRemember when we were scared of zombies? Those were the days. But thanks to the efforts of Shaun of the Dead and even to a degree the smirking presentation of Zack Snyder's damned entertaining Dawn of the Dead remake, being an undead flesheater just isn't as fearsome as it used to be.

Now Woody Harrelson is going into battle in the horror comedy Zombieland. Yep, it's another gore fest that makes fun of zombies. I'll tell you this much: When the zombies do actually start rising out of the ground, we won't be laughing then. No sir.

Until then, however, The Hemp Master hopes you will be laughing at the script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of The Joe Schmo Show. I don't think the concept is all that original, though. From The Hollywood Reporter: "Zombieland revolves around a mismatched pair of survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies. Harrelson plays one of the men, a zombie fighter named Albuquerque."

We'll hold out hope then that it's really funny, because again, this idea seems less than fresh. I wish we knew a little more, like is it a contemporary movie or is it slightly futuristic. You know what would be cool? A zombie movie set in the early 50s. Just think of all the McCarthyism metaphors.

Actually...I may come up with that on my own: A bunch of liberal artistic types being chased out of their dimly lit urban cafes by slow-moving conservative zombies sporting crewcuts and horn-rimmed glasses. I like it.

I have no idea when Zombieland takes place, though, nor when it will be released. And suddenly, I'd rather worry about my own zombie movie than Woody Harrelson's.
