Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 8:48AM Watch Brad Pitt Blackmail John Malkovich in 'Burn After Reading'
I got a little warm fuzzy when I saw a TV spot for
Burn After Reading tonight. You know why?
Because the new Coen Brothers movie is getting what Coen Brothers movies don't
generally receive: Marketing support.
You win an Oscar, the rules change.
So, commercials with
Brad Pitt and
George Clooney are sure to stick in a few heads
over the next couple of weeks, and then we people go to theaters on September
12th or 13th, they'll realize there's nothing else to see, but the commercials
for Burn After Reading were funny, so why not?
And that's the extent of my little warm fuzzy. I'm
excited for the movie, but I'm probably at least as excited for the movie to
prosper. We need more smart, clever, iconoclastic filmmakers like
Joel and
Ethan Coen, so the more success they find, the
better.
There's a new clip from the film, too, courtesy of
Trailer Addict. If you've followed the trailers
at all, you've seen bits of this scene before. Brad Pitt plays a health club
employee named Chad who stumbles onto the memoirs of one of the club's patrons,
a former CIA officer named Osbourne Cox (John
Malkovich). In this scene, Chad tries to blackmail Cox, and it
doesn't appear to be going very well. Not that Chad seems to notice.
It's making the usual festival stops over the next
couple of weeks, but for the rest of us, Burn After Reading will be here
on September 12th.
