Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 12:51AM 'Ghostbusters' Named Top Comedy of the Past 25 Years
Entertainment Weekly has named the best comedies of the
past 25 years, so you know what that means: Your opinion doesn't count for
squat, even to yourself.
No, seriously, shut the eff up - Entertainment Weekly
has spoken. These are the top 25 comedies of the past quarter century. So it is
written, so it shall be done.
All kidding aside, it's a pretty good list, with the
exception of
Beverly Hills Cop being rated so high. It's not funnier than
Spinal Tap.
Sorry. It's just not. Speaking of the Tap,
Christopher Guest
is the King of Comedy, with his co-starring role in that film joining two of his
directorial efforts -
Waiting For Guffman (#13) and
Best In Show
(#20) - on the countdown.
Ben Stiller
and
Vince Vaughn
both placed two films on the list, with
There's Something About Mary
hitting number seven. Curiously,
Tropic Thunder
made the top 20. I loved that movie, but with
Anchorman not cracking the Top 25,
I can't see how Tropic Thunder has already sewn up its legacy in a mere ten
days.
Here's the top ten:
1 -
Ghostbusters
2 -
National Lampoon's Vacation
3 - Beverly Hills Cop
4 - This is Spinal Tap
5 -
Office Space
6 -
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
7 - There's Something About Mary
8 -
The Big Lebowski
9 -
A Fish Called Wanda
10-
Dazed + Confused
For those of you wondering, The Whole Ten Yards just missed the cut; it got
three fewer votes than Agnes of God.

This list tells me, not enough people saw "thank you for smoking"
Where is Groundhog day???
That, my friend, is an excellent question. I wasn't really thinking of omissions, but perhaps we should. Groundhog Day definitely belongs here.
We could do a Bill Murray top 20.
No we couldn't. It would lose steam fast after about number eight.
What about me!?!? Wasn't I funny? Top 15 at least!
Seriously?
How about: Fletch, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels...etc
Hello? Why National Lampoon's Vacation? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was WAY better.
