Shia's Injury Written Into 'Transformers' Sequel

shiahand.jpgAlthough Shia LaBeouf was cleared of any wrongdoing in a traffic collision last weekend, the actor was still charged with a misdemeanor DUI, and now his attorney says LaBeouf may never fully recover from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

In a statement received by People.com, Michael Norris revealed that, "The force of (the) impact immediately flipped Shia's vehicle over, and, as a result, Shia's left hand was crushed."

"Shia underwent four hours of surgery on Sunday and has been recovering since then," the statement continued. "His doctors remain hopeful that he will fully recover, but due to extensive surgery and the nature of the injuries, there remains a substantial risk of both infection and other complications."

That's certainly bad news, but we can all hope that it serves as a wake-up call for a really talented guy with an otherwise bright future. Regardless of who's ultimately at fault in the collision, a DUI, even a misdemeanor, is bad news.

On the positive side, the production of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is continuing as scheduled, despite unfounded but understandable reports that LaBeouf's accident would shut things down temporarily. Director Michael Bay told Access Hollywood that the injuries will now figure into the story. "His two fingers are pretty mashed, but we're figuring out a way to shoot around it, kind of write it in the story," said Bay, thus defining the $200 million movie version of making lemonade out of life's lemons.

In response to the coverage of this story at MTV.com, andi08 seemed relieved, if not completely unconcerned. "i love shia," says andi. "he looks like an awesome kisser!"
