First Clip from Oliver Stone's 'W.' is a MeetCute

On October 17th, the world will finally get to see what Oliver Stone has planned for President George W. Bush. Is his new bio-pic sympathetic to a man clearly achieving beyond his station or is it a hatchet job, kicking Bush in the same wounds that have never healed over the past five years or more? I'm not confident this is an award winner - it just doesn't have that aura - but W. has a curiosity factor few films this fall can match. If you believe Primary Colors is a factual look at Bill Clinton, then this film would join that as the only bio-pics ever made about a sitting president. There's also the question of how legitimate Stone's point of view is, given his history with political subjects. Plus, it does have a good cast and if Josh Brolin is good as Dubya, we might see him get more leading man work for a while; he certainly deserved this step up after such great performances in 2007. We finally have our first clip from W., so we can get a better idea of just what we might be dealing with. It shows a young Dubya meeting Laura at a bar-b-q , and since George Bush doesn't set himself on fire, I guess we'll put this scene in the Fair to Bush column. Then again, since he didn't set himself on fire, maybe it's a complete fabrication. Now I'm totally confused. Just like the leader of the free world. It's definitely more in the spirit of what we heard the movie would be about months ago than the recent crop of movie posters. When we get more scenes, we'll pass 'em along.
