The Guy Ritchiest Flick Ever: 'Desperados with Avocados'

I won't go through all of it again, but to sum up: I think Guy Ritchie really needs RocknRolla to be fantastic for his legacy to remain somewhat intact. After all, Snatch was released in 2000. Tick tock, tick tock. Directors who have made two great films and two awful films don't get a free pass, especially when the good ran out eight years earlier, so while RocknRolla looks like a return to form (actually, it looks like a return to Lock, Stock), it's been nearly a decade since the director demonstrated his ability.

But I agree with everyone who says his first two films are fantastic new inventions in the genre. No question about it. I also agree with The Times of London, who says the world needs a good Guy Ritchie film...even if he's not the guy to direct it.

Here's Desperados with Avocados, clearly the third best Guy Ritchie movie, even though he had nothing to do with it.

Please check out the very entertaining article that accompanies the video over at The Times. RocknRolla - Guy Ritchie's third strike or saving grace - opens on Halloween in the U.S., and next week in the UK.

It's a shame that the release of Revolver (delayed in the U.S.) got caught up in all the Madonna-related anti-Ritchie hype which surrounded (and buried) it over here in the UK. It's a clever film with a literate script, and although not what people were expecting from the Lock, Stock stable, all the better for it. Reviewers tend to cling to the hive mind with these things, and stick with the prevailing trend when a director is perceived to be cashing-in on past glories. Tarantino's suffered a similar fate...
