Watch the Jarring Opening Minutes of 'Mirrors'
Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 2:49PM
I found out officially this morning that, at least for
our press corps here in Phoenix, there will be no screenings of the new horror movie
Mirrors, starring
Kiefer Sutherland and directed by
Alexandre Aja.
As much as I hate to do it with this film, anytime we're
not allowed to view a movie, I can only draw the conclusion that the studio (in
this case Fox) doesn't have confidence in their own product. That's a real shame,
because the movie looks sinister and atmospheric, and for what you normally
expect from a horror movie that doesn't screen for the press, this has a
terrific cast.
Strictly for the purposes of comparison, I'll point out
that I was allowed to see Halloween before it opened last August, and they even
squeezed me in for One Missed Call in January. They were both pretty
lousy. You'd think a movie opening
against stiff competition (Tropic Thunder, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) would want
all the opening weekend publicity it could get.
So because we can't see it until Friday (and even then,
next weekend's no good for me, so I doubt I'll make an effort to catch it during
its run), we'll have to rely on whatever clips we can get our hands on.
Fortunately,
MovieWeb has what claims to be the opening three minutes of the
movie, which set up the kind of evil doings that await Kiefer Sutherland.
