Johnny Depp doesn't do a ton of interviews, and even
when he does, he's not the most eloquent subject. No problem with that; he's an
actor, not strictly speaking a spokesman. So it was a bit of a surprise to read,
through various sources, that Depp surfaced on a radio interview in Florida.
Comic Book Cynic was apparently the first to find the YouTube clip below, which
is the audio for the most compelling part of the interview, at least for our
purposes.
As you probably know, Depp is a musician, and started
his career as such before acting took center stage. He reunited with his
old band The Kids for a benefit concert this past Friday night, and prior to
that event, he joined his bandmates (via phone) for an interview with Paul and
Young Ron on Big 105.9 in Miami. He talks a little bit about his upcoming
movies,
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (Depp, along with Colin Farrell and
Jude Law, stepped in to replace
Heath Ledger mid-production) and
Public Enemies,
in which he plays John Dillinger.
Naturally, the hosts wanted to know about the rumors
that Depp would be playing The Riddler in the next Batman movie. And naturally,
there's nothing to it.
Q: Hey Johnny, a listener called in
earlier said you have to ask about the rumors on the internet of you doing the Riddler. A: Oh yeah, I heard about that. Not that I know of. Q: You’d be a good choice. A: It seems like it’d be a fun gig for a while, yeah.
We have been saying all along that while
it's an almost-too-good-to-be-true scenario, we're not to that point yet. Some
people just expect a screenplay to be written the week after
The Dark Knight opens, and then the director
calls the people he wants, and they put on a show in the front lawn. Takes
years, particularly for something of this magnitude, and that's only magnified
when you throw a script (that isn't even finished and may not even be started)
at a guy as busy as Johnny Depp. Maybe it will happen, but not yet. And not for
a while.
Feel free to listen to the entire interview
to get more Depp updates.
