Arnold Seen on 'Terminator Salvation' Set
Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:02AM
How about this fine how-do-you-do?
Roland
Kickinger, who has become
Arnold Schwarzenegger 15 years after the movies
no longer needed a new Arnold Schwarzenegger, was all set for his breakout role.
Like Arnie, Roland is an Austrian bodybuilder, and he's even played the Schwarz
in a TV movie. But this was different: This was Terminator.
Yes, in a strange twist of fate, the man who would be
Arnold would be Arnold in next summer's
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. That
is, until now.
Arnold was seen on the set of T4 yesterday, and
unlike his usual maneuvers in public, he was not evaluating wildfire or mudslide
damage. No, Arnold was reportedly on set to record his voice for the new film.
Why would he do that?
Latino Review got that explanation from a
well-placed source.
"The premise of Arnie's involvement is to have a fully
rendered digital face of Arnie replacing the recently cast Roland Kickinger...It
seems the Director
Mc G will in no doubt try all he can to ensure
the Governator has some sort of involvement and as a result Arnold was on set
providing key ADR (Voice over) for the visual effects guys to reference during
post production. You have to remember, Arnold's commitments are preventing his
return to the movie business and this seems the best logical way to ensure his
involvement."
So it's, "Hello, Roland. Stand there for a second while
we see if we can impose Pre-Roland's face over yours. What's that? No, Roland.
Coffee is for the real actors."
Poor guy.
So there's Arnold on set being all chummy with
Batman,
laying down his voice tracks so the effects whiz kids can match the dialogue to
an old picture of Arnie's face. I mean, you wouldn't want his current face,
would you?
As it is we kind of knew Arnold would be back in some
limited capacity, and we had heard it would probably be a voiceover of some
kind. But this is a bit of a slap in the face for ol' Roland Kickinger. The
question is, is it really his face that's being slapped or the one being digitally slapped over
it?

I bet that wasn't in Kickinger's contract.
Why should he bother with acting now? In his shoes, I'd just mess around a bit, collect the money and buy an Arnie-mask for the next movie.
Yeeeeey!!!
This is great for the movie but bad for Roland... At the end, Arnie is the only Terminator, end of story.
This makes no sense... ADR isn't done on location/set... It's done in a studio where they loop the playback on speakers and a monitor and record the dialogue in a soundproof booth. The voice over artist doesn't have to spend any time on set. Arnie is probably just checking out the production and maybe providing some input on the Terminator character.
Very interesting, as Arnie also had his own voice over-dubbed/removed in an early movie...
the above comment suck balls
