Brett Ratner Not Making 'Guitar Hero' Movie

You will not find me leaping to the defense of director Brett Ratner very often, but when he said he'd love to make a movie based on Guitar Hero, I thought he'd be ideal for it. Why? Because it's not exactly Anna Karenina, now is it?

I mean, The Rat can make big budget movies. That's all he's done. And because he seems to draw all his power from playing Guitar Hero or referencing it in his latest work, I can't think of anyone I'd rather have directing a completely superfluous movie that doesn't have my interest in the first place.

But now Ratner tells Entertainment Weekly (via Worst Previews) that Activision, the video game company with which Ratner enjoys a profitable professional relationship, says it won't happen.

"I'd really like to do it, but they're not letting me," says Ratner. "I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it."

He remains undaunted, however: "I might prevail," he added. "I usually do."
