First Look at Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam's 'Doctor Parnassus'

In 2009, we'll finally see the last Heath Ledger performance in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. As you're aware, Ledger did not complete filming on Gilliam's latest fantasy, and Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law have all contributed their time (and donated their fees to Ledger's daughter, Matilda Rose) to assume Ledger's role.

The first teaser trailer for Parnassus has been released (thank you, Ropes of Silicon), and you can see a little bit of what Ledger and Christopher Plummer will look like in the film, but what really caught my eye were those spectacular computer animated sequences.

We don't have an official release date yet; keep checking DoctorParnassus.com for updates.

That's quite a cast. I've been down on Gilliam once in a while, thinking him to be overhyped. But looking at this video made me think: who else is doing on film what he has done for years? Nobody, really. He deserves a place in the hall of film greatness.

Absolutely. I remember being blown away by the Adventures of Baron Münchausen some 20 years ago and 12 Monkeys is one of the few films I've seen more than once in the cinema.

One of his big problems is that he seems unable to keep an even quality throughout an entire film. They have moments of brilliance but also messy moments which fall apart and give you a headache.

The production looks promising, I have to say, but the lack of any finished film sequences is of course a bit worrying.

I have developed a theory that Gilliam's films often fail partially during post-production.
