Mickey Rourke Wrestles with 'Sin City 2'

We've reported on the likelihood that
Mickey Rourke
will get an Oscar nomination for his work in
The Wrestler, directed by
Darren
Aronofsky. You don't have to look to hard to see some Academy Award
reclamation projects; the Academy loves rewarding comebacks, whether it's
Travolta or Polanski, Anthony Hopkins or Ruby Dee.
Rourke is a prime candidate, sight unseen, because 25
years ago, he was supposed to be the new Brando. Only that comparison was
supposed to be about what he did onscreen, not off. Rourke will be the first one
to admit that he screwed up his own career, and he seems hungry for respect and
redemption. But will he go back to the role that raised eyebrows about his
powerful abilities back in 2005? Will he reprise his role as Marv in
Sin City 2?
Frank Miller has turned in a script, so that's
the first hurdle. And
Robert Rodriguez may still direct it. But what
about Rourke? He told
MTV he's open to it, but he's got conditions.
“I don’t really think about that,” he said. “That’s
really not my forte, that type of thing.”
However, if the director returns and the screenplay
cooks, Rourke would probably be more inclined to consider it. "I have a lot of
respect for Robert Rodriguez,” he added. “It scares the piss out of me to sit in
make-up for three hours [but] if the role is written the right way, I would do
it because it was a good experience. I wasted a lot of time. I want to work with
interesting directors. I’m going to do a lot of work because of the time I
wasted.”
