Update on DC Comics' 'Green Lantern'
Monday, September 15, 2008 at 1:10AM
And what of
Green Lantern? We know all about
Batman
and Superman movies,
Spider-Man 4 and 5,
Wolverine, and even a possible
Daredevil remake. Seth Rogen is working on
Green Hornet and Nic Cage wants
Ghost Rider
2 to be like The Da Vinci Code. Meanwhile, a great hero
has just been sitting and
waiting.
Comicon recently chatted up
Marc
Guggenheim, the screenwriter on the long-gestating superhero
adaptation, and also the guy responsible for the recent Amazing Spider-Man
comic storyline and loads of TV shows, too. His most recent small screen
creation is ABC's Eli Stone.
The former lawyer is also juggling another Marvel
property, the Young X-Men comic, so finding time for Green Lantern,
even if he's the absolute best choice, will be difficult. But he's making an
effort.
"I've been working my ass off on Green Lantern," admits
Guggenheim. "I'm ready for a weekend off. I really can't say too much about it.
I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy. I will tell you it features Hal Jordan and
is an incredibly faithful rendition of the character. It honors everything
everyone loves about the hero."
He continues, "Every step of the way, we ask ourselves
what we want to see and what the fans will want to see. I think we have a script
that will actually satisfy on those levels."
OK, but when will we the fans see what he believes we
want to see? "Right now I'm just doing a rewrite for the studio with Greg [Berlanti]
and Michael [Green]. We'll turn that in next week. We just keep moving forward.
It's really good stuff!"
Comicon has a wide-ranging interview with Guggenheim,
which will be of particular interest if you're up to date on your Marvel
superheroes. In the meantime, we'll just keep waiting for updates on Green
Lantern, who was always one of my favorites.

I know you figured this one out Colin but for any readers that get confused while reading Green Lanter is a DC property and one of the books that has a wide range of characters, enough really to allow for a whole lot of movie sequals without focusing on one character.
