Edward Norton Talks Barack-umentary and More Hulk Movies
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 12:06AM
Edward Norton had a pretty successful spin at
the Toronto Film Festival. His upcoming cop drama,
Pride and Glory, which had been shuffled off
the release schedule for early 2008. That film will now come out next month. He
also announced he was working on a new movie with his
Incredible Hulk co-star,
Tim Blake
Nelson.
Leaves of Grass will begin filming next week in
Louisiana, and Norton will play twins in the movie. Sounds interesting.
Then there's
the new documentary he's filming about
Barack Obama's
road to the White House, presuming, I guess, that he gets there.
"It's something that I can't talk about that much, just because we have a
relationship with them," Norton told
Worst Previews. "We're making a historical record, not
something that will play a role in the election. We have an agreement that we
won't talk a lot about or publicize until the election is over."
He adds, "But it's a fascinating thing to be able to be
documenting. We'll definitely have an opportunity to talk to you about that
process and how it unfolded when its all over, but we kind of have to stay off
the record until it is all resolved."

I hear there's this great scene where Obama totally puts this guy's mouth on the curb... Anyway, I wonder what would happen if Obama lost? Would that take the sting out the documentary? I mean, if he wins, they'll finish it up, sell it, release it, do the dew. But if he's not elected, when will this be finished? Or would this just be the first part of a bigger documentary that also covers whatever will follow? On another subject entirely, Norton tells MTV he's clueless about what Marvel Studios wants to do with The Incredible Hulk after the most recent film's so-so performance. There is a lot of talk about Hulk being in The Avengers movie, because, after all, he was in The Avengers. But Norton pleads ignorance on this one. "The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque," Norton told MTV News. "I won’t say [they're] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do." "They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters," said Norton, who sounds like a non-believer in the practicality of it all. "Who knows where they’ll go?" I don't love the idea of The Avengers as a movie, just because you've got so many superheroes. Three or four of them are marquee guys. I just don't know how the hell they can divide up all the screen time. Certainly, it's never worked with supervillians, so I'm left to wonder how it could work with the heroes.

I'll be honest, whether I enjoy his documentary or not I think it speaks loudly that he is a celebrity intentionally not attempting to impact the election. Hollywood is not the voice of America and I really grow tired of them throwing their politics down our throats, then again, it is the media that gives them this attention. Regardless, I like Norton's move on not discussing any details of the documentary until the election is over.
