Is Samuel L. Jackson Tarantino's Latest 'Bastard'?

You know how in preseason football they always talk about quarterbacks needing to find a rhythm with new receivers? A pass sails over a guy's head and he walks back to the huddle with that look in his eye that says, "No way that was for me." It can work the same way in movies. Tim Burton's work is elevated when Johnny Depp is around, and Quentin Tarantino flicks are better off with Samuel L. Jackson than without him.

Because the script for Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards calls for a black actor, MTV wondered if the pair will run one of their old plays.  "I called him to find out if I had to learn French or not," Jackson joked. "Because the only black person in the script spoke French."

The character in question is named Marcel, a French movie theater projectionist. But it's not a French accent Jackson would have to master; instead, he'd have to do all of his dialogue in French. Not easy.

Because of the demands of the role, Jackson said QT asked him, "'So do you know any black French actors?'" I said, "'What the f***?!? Yeah, me,'" Sam laughed.

"I gave him the name of some guys. So yeah we had a small conversation about it. We’ll see what happens. I thought the script was a lot of fun."

If Jackson were to join Brad Pitt and a peculiar collection of actors in the Inglorious Bastards cast, he'd need to learn that Francais tout de suite. The film is scheduled to begin production in Germany next month, and because Jackson is always working, any hole in his schedule would fill up quickly.

Personally, I'd love to see him make the effort. If he learns the dialogue, it would only help Tarantino, who's on the quickest production schedule in over a decade.
