Oh sure, anyone can say now that they thought
Daniel Craig would make a good James Bond, but
I said it years ago...although you probably don't believe me. Turns out I was
right (even if you don't believe me), and his work in
Casino Royale is the best 007 performance to
date, bar none. And you know what? It's probably in the top three Bond films
ever.
Watching Casino Royale with a contemporary
mindset, of course, makes it impossible to put another 40-year-old Connery gem
in the same category. The action's more believable, the drama is grittier, the
writing's better, but a couple of the old Bonds would probably stack up
side-by-side with Casino Royale. It's just that this one is so different
from and so much better than anything we've seen from Bond in decades that it's
kind of automatically elevated.
Will it be the best Bond historically? I think a lot of
that depends on the rest of this current series. If we get three or four great
Daniel Craig films, then clearly, Casino Royale is a major turning point
that kept the franchise alive for another decade or longer. In that case, saying
it's the best one doesn't seem so blasphemous.
As for the Craig franchise,
Quantum of Solace is up next. I know - terrible
title. But it looks very similar to Casino Royale, which is great unless
director
Marc Forster just does an impersonation of the
first film. If the story's put together well and the stunts pay off, it should
be fine. One thing's for sure: They've got the right man in the tuxedo.

movie there, but we thought we'd give you an appetizer.

Don't forget: Quantum of Solace will now open November
14th.

Quantum of Solace a bad title? I think it is an excellent title. When you think about it considering the plot of this film it makes perfect sense. The fact that it is an original title makes it even better. I think this is the first film not based on a book? Correct me if I'm wrong on that but if its right than I think that to use those words in conjunction with the plot make for a unique and interesting title. The "O" in of and solace also looked cool in marketing and overall it has a very "bond" feel to it and also gives off a darker sense which these new 007 films are going at.
