New Clip from Disney's 'Bolt'

This November, Disney will release Bolt, the studio's latest computer animated cartoon. As the most family-friendly flick new to theaters around Thanksgiving, it doesn't take a genius to predict that this one ought to do pretty well. After all, kids will love it because it's about a dog. Kids will love it because it's animated. And kids will love it because Miley Cyrus voices one of the characters.

If you don't think millions of parents will have to plunk down $30 or more to see this one, you're wrong.

The good news is that Bolt looks like it's at least OK. Tough to tell from the trailer if it's going to be really good, but I have cause to be skeptical because we've seen some bad animated movies this year, particularly Fly Me to the Moon. This does look a lot more entertaining than that one, though.

John Travolta plays Bolt, the canine star on one of TV's biggest shows. When his co-star (Cyrus) leaves for the day, Bolt thinks she's been kidnapped, and since he believes he's some kind of superhero, Bolt springs into action to rescue somebody who doesn't need rescuing.

After that, he added cynically, it's just a revision of the old fish out of water story. You've seen it a million times, especially if you have kids and had to watch Toy Story and Finding Nemo every damn day for three years.

Here's the first clip from Bolt, and it's a pretty lengthy cut, so thanks to Trailer Addict for sharing. Bolt and Rhino (Mark Walton) are trying to break their friend out of an animal shelter. Humans get outfoxed.

Bolt opens in theaters on November 21st.

Looks like it could be pretty fun. I'm still disappointed that Chris Sanders was removed from the project. His designs were a lot more interesting as well.
