Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 5:42AM John Turturro Wants a Bigger 'Lebowski'
Riding higher than ever thanks to Oscar wins and an
instant hit in
Burn After Reading, would the
Coen
Brothers
ever make a sequel? A couple of their movies could open themselves up for that.
Raising Arizona could have some merit - you know, if we're just
spitballing here - and hell, they tried to make Fargo into a TV show of some kind.
Remember that?
But what about
The Big Lebowski? We can't say whether or not
John Turturro
was joking about it when he spoke to ESPN The Overrated Magazine, but
here's the pivotal exchange:

ESPN: If the Coen brothers made a baseball movie, would it be better than the bowling movie? Turturro: The Big Lebowski was a great movie. We hope to make a sequel. I can't talk about it, but it comes down to Jesus in the jumpsuit.
Added ESPN, "Coming up on SportsCenter, we'll massage Brett Favre's prostate with our praise. Booyah!"
MTV did a little digging on the subject, too, asking co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore their thoughts on a follow-up. "That’s just like a sick thought, isn’t it?" Hoffman retorted. Moore believes her character, The Dude's sex-driven Maude, would be prime for a comeback. "I think she has a role in everybody’s universe...Maude abides too!" Whether or not it's a Coen-endorsed sequel or just a spin-off for the maniacal Jesus Quintana, Moore gives her blessing to Turturro. "He should! What a great character," she said. "He’s incredibly powerful."

I think everyone would like to see a sequel of the Big Lebowski.
A sequel would probably go against the grain of the Coens' working method. To me it seems that their work consists of a channeling of a creative flow of characters and stories. It's almost like they don't invent their films. Instead their films present themselves to them.
To force a sequel to the Big Lebowski, without it coming naturally, would probably result in a really bad movie.
As much as I appreciate the Big Lebowski, I would prefer to see something original, the film that the Coens most of all want to make at the moment.

I really liked the main point behind it, specially when the Coen Brothers started working on Raising Arizona with the idea to make it as different as possible from their previous film Blood Simple by generic viagra having it be far more optimistic and upbeats.
