Keira is Done Playing 'Pirates'

Prescient. That's how I'd describe MTV's Q & A with The Duchess star Keira Knightley about her most famous corseted role. I saw this footage over a week ago, and at the time, it didn't hit the news radar: "Oh, Keira says she's done with Pirates movies."

Now, however, that's a different story. No, Knightley hasn't changed her tune. But Disney apparently has. Johnny Depp's representatives acknowledged yesterday that, yes, Depp's appearance in Captain Jack garb at the Disney "Hey, Look at Us and Enjoy the Free Food" preview this week did signal that he's climbing aboard the Black Pearl again. That's in addition to the official confirmation that he'll be involved in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and the big shocker that he'll play Tonto in The Lone Ranger.

If Depp's signed on, we're definitely going to have a Pirates 4. So Keira Knightley saying no thanks (in essence) means that Captain Jack will probably be without Elizabeth Swann and the Orlando Bloom character nobody really cares about. Probably for the best, actually. Does that mean Captain Jack and Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush)? Let's hope. And more Keith Richards? Let's hope not.

Here's Keira's official stance, made a few days before the announcement. She sounds pretty definitive, so I wouldn't bank on her coming back.

And for the record, Knightley's The Duchess is in a few theaters across the country right now.

They should put Natalie Portman instead of keira in the Pirates movie if she doenst want to go again in the 4th episode. They are very similar and this was to happen in star wars. i think Natalie would have a great pirate spirit dont you?

Really, as the man suggests, just can the damn role altogether. We can do without either miss prissy, and if Ms Swan takes pretty boy bloom away with her, all the better.

that's her problem if she wants to quit, but disneyshould leave bloom and everyone else in. the movie'll be 10x better w/o her anyway.

Why should she come back? Her storyline's done. Plus, she's, what, 23? Who'd want their entire career to be pirate movie after pirate movie?

As it where Knightley played the decoy to Portman's Queen in Episode 1.
Either way they are both better actresses then either trilogy (Pirates or Star Wars) shows them being, I really hope they can work their way past these films.

I don't see why they would want Elizabeth and Will in this movie anyway. Their storyline is clearly completed. It had an ending with At World's End.

And Orlando Bloom, bless him, was truly terrible in the role. He's great to look at, and they look great together, but over the course of three movies, you never really learn anything consequential about Will... because there is no Will. There is just Orlando Bloom strutting around pretending to be dashing and calling himself Will. The character makes no impact. And Keira had to try to be one half of a pair with him... no wonder it wasn't her best role. It was difficult enough to believe her impetuous and intelligent Swann would want anything to do with a block of wood when Johnny Depp was strutting around with an actual personality.

But I digress. There's nothing more for Keira to do with Elizabeth, and she knows that. I'm glad she isn't going to stick around merely for the sake of sticking around. She has some fantastic projects coming up - I am beyond excited for King Lear, personally - and she has the rest of her barely-begun career to focus on.

I say Good Riddance... she was painful to watch at the best of times... and her role in the 3rd film was laughable at best... she's not the worst actor out there.. but she's a lousy pyrate
I say More Barbossa... as for lame Will Turner... yawnfest as well...
lets get some REAL pyrate action happening... a good ol' pyrate brawl between Jack & Hector...

and NO... pyrate is not smelled wrong...... look it up...
