Marvel, Paramount Reach Deal for 'Iron Man' Sequels and More

Who cares if the world is crumbling in on itself today -
Marvel just
signed a distribution deal for its next five movies!
Paramount now has the rights to Marvel's next handful of
self-produced films, which will include
Iron Man 2,
Thor,
The First Avenger: Captain America,
The Avengers, and eventually, Iron Man 3. The move comes a day before Iron
Man will be released on DVD, and because that film in particular deserves the
bulk of the credit for Marvel's rosier 2008 revenue projections (up from $65 -
$80 million to $125 - $140 million), tying with its distributor makes a lot of
sense.
Let's also not lose sight of DC Comics' The Dark
Knight, which has reinvigorated the situation between DC and its parent
company, Warner Bros. The studio announced in the past few weeks that it was
going to develop a few more DC titles is a vein similar to Christopher Nolan's
Batman franchise, including a retooled Superman.
With Paramount delivering the year's second-biggest
comic book movie, it makes sense for Marvel to try to reach a more exclusive
arrangement as the distance between its revenue and DC's revenue gets smaller.
Marvel currently has deals with Fox for X-Men and its spinoffs and with
Sony for Spider-Man.
"Coming off of Iron Man’s incredible success this
summer, we could not be more excited about extending our relationship with
Marvel," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures. "Marvel’s iconic
brand, its popular characters and its proven ability to create compelling and
visually spellbinding films complement Paramount’s great history of filmmaking.
We look forward to a long and successful run together."
