Another 'Tarzan' Movie Swinging Into Theaters
Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 4:30PM
Hollywood is sucking the last
remaining bits of dried blood of the bones of
Tarzan, with
Variety detailing the negotiations for a big
screen update of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs character. According to the
report, Warner Bros., producer
Jerry Weintraub, and director
Stephen Sommers are teaming up, with Sommers
banging out the screenplay with
Stuart Beattie. The two just wrapped production
on
G.I. Joe.
The Tarzan movie is nothing new; Warner Bros. and Weintraub have been
slowly developing the project for five years. At that time, John
August was supposed to write the script, and then two years
back, Guillermo del Toro was discussing the project with the
studio.

I'm all for a Tarzan re-boot. There have been two Tarzan movies in my lifetime not counting the Disney animated version: Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan with Highlander himself, Christopher Lambert. And Tarzan and the Lost City with Casper Van Dien.
While both films were formidable, there is one distinct problem: Neither developed into a series.
Tarzan is a Jurassic era James Bond, and studios ought to treat him as such. So if you are going to go "there" go there with an arc in your head...
PLEASE!
With Sommers involved we are almost guaranteed Brendan Fraser as Tarzan...
"Watch out for that tree!"
Uggh.
