Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 5:56PM Jon Favreau Pleads with Schwarzenegger for Film Production Tax Breaks
Nikki Finke at
Deadline Hollywood says that director
Jon Favreau sat down over the weekend with
Arnold Schwarzenegger, and reps from Marvel and
the California Film Commission to discuss "runaway productions," meaning, films
that shoot outside California. Favreau wants to shoot
Iron Man 2 in Los Angeles, but if it's more
cost-effective to do it elsewhere, it would leave the state, like so many other
films have done in the past few years.
According to Finke, Schwarzenegger pledged to try once
again this week to push for tax breaks for one of California's largest
industries. "Marvel got an 8-figure rebate check on The Incredible Hulk which
was shot in Canada," Favreau told Deadline Hollywood. "It's hard to compete with
that. But a little bit of a tax incentive in California could go a long way."
Also on the table is a reported $600 million commitment from Marvel to shoot
more films in and around Los Angeles, if the state plays ball.
