Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 8:38AM New, Dark International Trailer for 'Max Payne'
There's a new international trailer for
Max Payne, and while I was never down on the
project, I'm more "up" on it now than I was before. Having played the game for
what felt like about ten straight months, I always thought it had a cinematic
quality to it, especially if the screenwriter was smart enough to pare down the
violence and accentuate some of the subtext, not that I mind the violence.
Apparently, director
John Moore (The Omen) doesn't mind the
violence, either, but I will say, this looks less like a straight-ahead action
movie than a lot of Hollywood types would probably be inclined to make this
concept into. And, like the film, while I was never down on
Mark Wahlberg as Payne, I'm thinking that he
might now do a really good job. Why is he clean-shaven, though?
Max Payne opens October 17th. Kudos to
MovieWeb for the trailer.

It looks really promising. If the film stays true to the tone of the trailer (vice versa, really) then I think I might even enjoy it more than the Dark Knigh, personally. Of course; I didn't enjoy the Dark Knight particularly, just saying.
Lengthy Johnson hates more everything than I do.
You mean Lengthy hates everything more than you do?
Possibly I hate more than you do but I don't hate everything. Some things I like quite a lot. I liked Wahlberg a lot in The Departed. Mind you, he played a character who hated everything.
I watch a lot of film and nobody is happier than I when they get everything right in a film. However, due to the dispersion of creative control in today's film-making there is usually quite a lot of annoying flaws in films that could have been better if the creative team had been left to it.
I would say that out of 10 major releases, perhaps 3 are horrible, 3 are decent, 3 are commendable and 1 is really good. Unfortunately, it means a lot of complaining if you're gonna talk about film.
(No, I mean that the perception is that I hate everything, and my perception is that you hate more everything than even I do).
Ok, so I win?
I guess so. I will say, though, that I find your ratio to be pretty consistent. My mileage varies because I have to see so many movies I never would for my own pleasure. In general, most movies are just below fine to watchable, two to three apes, but I think there are more really good movies than really bad ones. Conversely, there's more absolute shit than there are classics.
Yeh, I'm no critic but the woman makes me watch films I don't want to see either. I'm getting better and better at falling asleep, though.
Perhaps a reason that there seems to be more classics than really bad films is that it - fortunately - is easier to forget the bad ones?
