Trailer - Sean Penn and Josh Brolin in Gus Van Sant's 'Milk'

Of the two Josh Brolin political bio-pics hitting theaters this fall, I have to say that Milk appears to have the most consistent vision for itself and frankly, looks like the far superior movie to Oliver Stone's W.

Again, it's just the trailer, but the performances seem more in tune with each other and the film, and there's really no question what the movie is about based on what we're seeing in these two-and-a-half minutes. Neither of those things is true of W.

Milk chronicles the rise to power of Harvey Milk, a gay San Franciscan who ran for public office in the 1970s, becoming the first openly homosexual candidate elected to a major public office. He was unbelievably controversial - or maybe he was exactly as controversial as you'd think - but Milk challenged the machine and won. For a while.

Gus Van Sant's new film has a terrific cast supporting Sean Penn as Harvey Milk and Brolin as his political opponent Dan White: James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna, and Victor Garber all play key roles in Milk.

A big, bouncy thank you to Trailer Addict for the video; Milk opens on December 5th.

It would be good to see Van Sant get back to form. I, for the record, loved Gerry and Elephant as much as I did Good Will Hunting. But he has not been in touch with the mainstream conscience for quite some time...

I didn't love Gerry, but it's a damn shame more people didn't see Elephant. Very brave filmmaking.
