Lindsay Lohan's 'Labor Pains' Trailer Laborious, Painful

lilo7.jpgIn the red corner: A lightweight movie trailer about a girl who fakes a pregnancy to keep her job, starring a woman who has done just about everything to jeopardize her jobs...Labor Pains!

And in the blue corner: A movie critic and writer who can't understand for the life of him why this trailer is generating even modest buzz, Colin Boyd!

Seriously, I saw the news of this trailer's existence on YouTube and it was like people had seen the second coming. OK, maybe that's too dramatic. Think less the second coming of Christ and more the second coming of, oh, Christian Brando.

Still, it was a bit like somebody was coming back to life. But I gotta tell ya, I don't think that someone is Lindsay Lohan, or more specifically, her flatlining career. Labor Pains just does not look that special. It's a comedy steeped in formulaic traditions. Even the trailer has the stereotypes in full flower: The tyrannical boss (Chris Parnell), the helpful friend at the office (Cheryl Hines), the geek at the office (Kevin Covais) and, of course, Lilo, playing a character I guess we're supposed to sympathize with. But won't that be hard when everyone hates her real life persona and her character in the movie is a bad employee who lies about a pregnancy just to avoid a well-deserved firing?

In a way, it's a miracle she's never tried this approach on another movie set.

See? Not exactly taking the road less traveled. However, it can't be as bad as Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen or I Know Who Killed Me, right? So there is that. Labor Pains is scheduled to be released next year.

It's the mileage more than the years in her case.
