Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 5:05AM Katzenberg Confirms 'Madagascar 3'
Though it didn't seem like a top of mind movie in the U.S. after its impressive $60 million debut - a consequence of being the first of three $60 million openers in a row more than anything else - Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa pushed $180 million here in the states, a little off the $190-odd million made by the first movie.

But where Madagascar has done real damage is overseas. The animated flick has doubled its American numbers, earning right around $350 million in two months. That's damned impressive, and it's reason enough for DreamWorks to order another movie.
Talking all things Madagascar at the announcement that Nickelodeon will order more episodes of the series The Penguins of Madagascar, DreamWorks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg acknowledged the threequel. "Yes, we are making a Madagascar 3 now, and it will be out in the summer of 2012."
There are apparently a couple of options open to the animals at this point. Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria could return to New York, or they could find more adventures in another foreign land. If DreamWorks thinks they can keep this series going perpetually, then we might see Option B, but the more traditional approach, of course, would be to wind up the trilogy with a trip back home.
Personally, I thought the penguins were the best thing about the first movie, and even though they were underused in the sequel, I'd prefer to see them more than Ben Stiller and the gang. I guess the TV show takes care of that, but does it, really?

I'm glad they're continuing the Madagascar franchise. The second film actually surprised me with all the laughs. And yes, I agree that the penguins are the best!
I love Madagascar! King Julian is the best, but the penguins are good 2 :)
