Rumor Patrol: Britney in 'Sex and the City' Sequel
Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 5:00AM
MTV UK reports that Britney Spears might parlay her little career resurgence into a role in the Sex and the City sequel, tentatively titled Do We Have To? Wait...They're Paying Us How Much?. Now, this information is based completely on hearsay, so I doubt any bit of it's true, but it's not like we've been immune from commenting on baseless stories before.

Citing a blurb in Heat Magazine, which, it's fair to say, does not have the journalistic reputation of The Economist, MTV UK says that Sarah Jessica Parker is looking for a new girl to bring into the fold, as a way of passing the baton to a new generation of drunk, desperate women.
The quote attributed to Parker, one we simply do not believe, is, "My idea is to have someone like Britney Spears move to New York as my cousin or niece and Carrie would show her the ropes."
It is entirely possible that Parker, Candace Bushnell and Michael Patrick King are all thinking that it's time to transition from the original Sex and the City cast to a younger foursome, but I doubt Parker would want to put her investment in the hands of Brit. There are plenty of young actresses that come with a lot less baggage and who have more ability.
So I'd be extra leery about this rumor.

Just the fact that they're making a Sex and the City sequel is bad enough news. I never really minded the show, but seeing the movie once was enough for me. Besides, it's so long it's practically two movies already...
