Friday, January 16, 2009 at 12:04PM Joaquin Phoenix to Rap, Casey Affleck to Direct
Why do I get the feeling this won't be a very long documentary? Casey Affleck will chronicle the music career of his brother-in-law, Joaquin Phoenix.

I guess we all made one or both of the following assumptions when Phoenix announced he was retiring from the movie business to concentrate on tunes:
1) He wouldn't immediately turn around and make a movie about the career he chose instead of making movies.
2) He would kind of do the Johnny Cash thing, a singer-songwriter type approach, and not try to rap.
J-Phix, as I'm going to start calling him now, will launch his music career tonight at a club in Vegas, which worked so well for Paris and K-Fed. The Hollywood Reporter also says that Sean Combs will produce the debut album by J-Phix, and I suspect that will be in Affleck's documentary, as well.
I have to confess, I'm more morbidly curious - almost in a This is...Spinal Tap! sort of way to see the movie, although I certainly have trouble picturing the artist formerly known as Joaquin Phoenix forging a successful career in hip hop. I just can't see him at the Source Awards. Sorry.

This totally reminds of this other really good actor that wanted to try his hand at music. What was his name... Riv... River! River...Plylex... Plexi... Oh! Phoenix! River Phoenix! Wait a minute, didn't he die? Were they Brothers?
Well, maybe instead of a drug overdose outside of the Viper Room it'll be a whole "East Coast" vs "West Coast" sorta thing.
R.I.P. fatty smalls...I mean Biggie.
