Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 8:07PM Keanu Reeves Will Star in 'Cowboy Bebop'
Ending for good the speculation about the upcoming live action adaptation of an anime classic, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Keanu Reeves is officially on board to play bounty hunter Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop.

The script for the American version will be written by Peter Craig, although it is unclear at this time if the movie will follow a storyline already established or if it will be changed to fit an original idea. The futuristic Japanese TV show is loaded with American influences, so there could be a pull to kind of water it down for U.S. audiences.
On the plus side, series writer Keiko Nobumoto is one of the producers, ans Masahiko Minami, one of the original producers of the TV show, will be a production consultant. Perhaps that will keep this one on the straight and narrow.
Two questions I still have: Is Keanu the right choice? And can the amazing visuals from the original be captured the right way in a live action film, even if it is loaded with CGI?

I think he's too old for the part. He just doesn't give off any form of personality that resembles Spike. In his movie roles or his actual personality. Ah, I'll give him a chance though.
I unfortuantely stand saying if they can make Heath ledger the Joker then anything is possible. Wasn't until the first photo of him in costume showed up did I know they were brilliant.
Of course it could all just go the way of DBZ. Speed Racer got it right, the story may not of worked but visually it was perfect. This movies is more Firefly-Serenity it's not heavy CGI it's mostly simple places with a little CGI.
Keanu as Spike? i don't think he should be the one playing the part, he's got too much movies where he's the lead character in whatever they made into a movie adaptation. I'm not against him but it think they should get someone younger and looks fresher.
