Monday, January 19, 2009 at 1:00AM 'Spider-Man 4' To Film in 2010
My question about the next Spider-Man chapter is this: Will it be relevant? It's been five years since a good Spidey movie, and the last one was perhaps the worst major comic book movie since Joel Schumacher visited Gotham City. And whereas the first two films were released two years apart, there was a three-year gap between the second and third movies, and we're looking at four years between the awful movie and whatever the next one will be.
Spidey used to rule the comic book movie genre, and now, the franchise would be lucky to land in third place.

So nearly ten years after the first film, how in touch will Spider-Man 4 really be? Actor J.K. Simmons, who plays J. Jonah Jameson in the series, told MTV that filming will begin next year, with an eye on a May 2011 release.
Simmons is great as Jameson, and if you want to watch an actor completely walk away with a movie, watch his two scenes in Burn After Reading. He steals the whole movie, and he was probably on set for a weekend.
It appears the actor is taking a similar approach to the next Spidey movie:
“We’ve definitely brainstormed ideas for Triple-J, but I have no desire to make Triple-J more of the focus
of those movies,” Simmons confirmed. “The amount that I did in 1, 2 and 3, is just exactly right...Come in, blow in, do a week, blow out, be the comic relief, and hit the road. And let Tobey and everybody else do the heavy lifting.”
Of course, I'm not concerned with how good Jameson will be. You could hand him the script from Spider-Man 2 again and I doubt people would notice much difference. Can Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire find the touch again, or could it be too late in the game?

I would say that Spiderman 3 was the worst major comic book movie since X-Men 3...I've never wanted to walk out of a movie before until I saw that piece of trash. There's something about the second film in a comic book movie series being the best (Spiderman 2, X-Men 2, TDK) and the third in the series usually being the worst (Spiderman 3, X-Men 3, Blade 3), which is why I'm not anticipating a third movie in the Batman series.
J.K. Simmons pretty much steals every movie he's in. I don't think I've ever once not liked him in something.
