Trailer - John Cena in '12 Rounds'
Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:17AM
Can the WWE reproduce the success in transitioning a wrestler to a movie star it found with The Rock? I think it's a case-by-case basis, because the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin experiment didn't work, and he'd be the next likely candidate.
It's like anything else in Hollywood, though: Tons of talented actors never get that big break or even if they do - other things in the movie or TV show conspire against them - and their careers never take off.

John Cena has had his opportunity, appearing in 2006's The Marine, which managed about $20 million. That's about what the movie cost to make, so it wasn't a big loss for WWE boss Vince McMahon nor a major success. Can Cena fare better with this spring's 12 Rounds?
The bad news is there's a lot of male-oriented viewing around it, with Watchmen, Knowing, I Love You, Man, and Fast and Furious all opening within three weeks of the new cop drama, meaning it will be harder for the film to get noticed. I'm sure McMahon and Fox Atomic don't have huge plans for it, though, so if it can do even $30 million, that might be a win. And that's something the WWE needs if it wants to make a movie star out of Batista or somebody.
Here's the trailer for 12 Rounds, which is directed by Renny Harlin.

I dig the MARINE... It was very cool but does that mean this should have the exact same script? sounds like the same movie? ... except for the bad guy does prison time before he gets out and somehow masterfully plots all these bad events to take place... totally believable though... ha! the marine was tongue in cheek. what the hell is this gonna be?
