Another Sundance success story is being told, this time by Sony, which acquired the distribution rights to the blaxploitation spoof, Black Dynamite, for $2 million, Variety reports.

It was a quick turnaround, apparently developing after the film's packed Sunday night premiere and coming to an agreement before the sun came up Monday. It's a North American agreement that includes "a hefty marketing commitment" for a release later this year.
We had the trailer online last month, and marketing the film shouldn't be all that tough; I doubt there's going to be another movie that fits the same description this year, and if released at a time that's short on quirky comedies, Black Dynamite could find a following quickly.
There's no release date for the film yet, and there probably won't be for some time, but in the past, Sundance comedies have done very well in that late July through Labor Day slot, and have popped up again with success after Halloween.
Apropos of nothing, but the title - Black Dyanimte - makes me wonder if Jimmie "J.J." Walker still owns the trademark on "Dy-no-mite" after all these years.
