New Promos for 'Coraline'

Kudos to Geek Tyrant for finding these brand new Coraline ads. They're billed as web ads, although it's just as likely that they're TV ads doing double duty.

I think a lot of people believe Coraline is another computer animated film, the kind we see about every three weeks these days. In fact, I had to correct a fellow critic about that point earlier today. Coraline is primarily stop-motion animation, meaning a lot of what you see is manipulated by hand and painstakingly shot frame by frame. There's even more confusion because the new film by Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick is in 3-D, and we so commonly associate that with animation right now.

There is some CG in the film, true, so perhaps it's more correct to say it's a collaboration of both forms, but the primary achievement is in the puppets.

How cool does this look, seriously? Coraline, based on the Neil Gaiman book, opens February 6th.
