Friday, January 23, 2009 at 4:43AM Week in Review: Oscars, 'Hobbit,' Theater Violence and More
There are plenty of things happening in moviedom right now. You've got the Sundance Film Festival, the largest collection on the planet of people waiting outside in the snow for two hours to see some tiny independent film while bitching about how the Oscars hate The Dark Knight, and then, of course, there's the Dark Knight-hating Oscars, which announced its nominees yesterday.

And honestly, for all the talk about the Batman flick being snubbed, it's nominated in the categories where it is clearly exceptional: Supporting actor and a host of technical awards. Could you make a case for it Best Picture or for Best Director? Sure, but plenty of people thought Iron Man was better and it barely showed up at all. Wall-E is a more legit Best Picture candidate, and Best Director, in my opinion.
Outside of those headlines, there were a few other stories that caught our attention this week, and hopefully, they catch yours as well. (And just so you've got them handy, we threw in the Oscar nominations at no charge...)
