'The Green Hornet' Stung?
Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 6:00AM
I can't say this is surprising, but there are persistent whispers that big screen
adaptation of The Green Hornet may be in serious trouble. HitFix cites a source saying the film won't go into
production this year, and claims other insiders at Sundance have said the movie probably won't happen at
all.

Oh, how things have changed. Six months ago, Seth Rogen and Evan
Goldberg were writing a script, and Rogen was set to star as The Green
Hornet. The Sony had a fit of genius and signed Kung Fu Hustle auteur Stephen
Chow to direct and to co-star as the trusty sidekick, Kato. That's gold.
But since then, Chow has balked at directing, and made it sound as though he wasn't all that interested in even being in the
movie anymore. Cursed creative differences...
If they can't get the Stephen Chow stuff resolved, the best approach for Sony is cut its losses and not
produce a movie that would only be a fraction of what it could have been. I know Rogen has fans, but Chow is
the talent in this situation. Without him, there's no movie. I'm sure if Sony presses on a suitable enough
Kato can be found and you could get a director to make the film, but neither one of those things offers as
much minus Chow.
Since The Green Hornet is on Sony's summer 2010 calendar, and it seems unlikely that it will begin
production in March, at the very least, you'd have to imagine this will be delayed for a while.
