Dakota Confirms 'New Moon' Interest
Monday, January 26, 2009 at 3:21AM
There has been plenty of speculation about the casting for New Moon, this year's sequel to the Beatlemaniacally received Twilight. We know that there's been a change at the top; director Catherine Hardwicke was dumped in favor of Chris Weitz. We heard that Vanessa Hudgens auditioned, a rumor that turned out to be false.

And then at the end of last week, news spread that Dakota Fanning was eyeing the role of Jane, a pivotal player in the world of Team Edward. It turns out not to be idle chatter; Fanning confirmed to the fifth letter that she's trying to land the role.
"I really hope it works out," Fanning admitted. "It would be so much fun."
"I think that the actors are amazing," added the soon-to-be 15-year-old. "It would be really cool to be a part of that. I'm a big fan."
The book series and the first film have a very devoted set of fans and they have concrete ideas about who's right and wrong for the roles. But Dakota's the real deal and has been since she was six, for crying out loud; odds are you can't rely on someone her age to give you a better performance.Maybe you can mine gold out of somebody else, but she's established, adds her own drawing power, and can certainly handle the material. Why wouldn't you sign her?
