Monday, January 26, 2009 at 1:55PM 'Waiting for Guffman' to Finally Make it to Broadway?
Everyone realizes that For Your Consideration and A Mighty Wind were steps behind Christopher Guest's earlier mockumentaries, Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman. But the thought of no more Chris Guest movies? I don't really want to think about that.

However, Jane Lynch, one of the funniest actors in Hollywood and a co-star in Guest's past three pictures, tells MTV that Guest might focus on the stage now, with ideas of taking Guffman to Broadway. “I haven’t heard any rumblings,” says Lynch of a possible fifth movie. “Parker Posey and I have put our heads together and decided we think it might be over.”
While she had no details about Guffman's chances to make it to Broadway, Lynch says Guest is trying to make it happen. "I would love to be in [Guffman],” says Lynch, “But I wasn’t in the movie, so I don’t know that I’ll be invited to be.”
I want more Guest movies, but only if he can find something worthy. Maybe ditch the improvised mockumentary approach for a while. But a stage version of Guffman is brilliant. After all, the songs are written, and most of the scenes have been blocked already. Could you imagine "Stool Boom" with a big Broadway orchestra?

I also read over at playbill.com today that Lajolla Playhouse is trying out a musical version of the Hudsucker Proxy this coming season. The Cohens and Guest headed to the Great White Way? This sounds like it could be the best of times (or, possibly, the worst of times).
Thanks for the tip, Scott.
