Fearless Forecast: 'Taken' Takes Over

I think it's going to be an all-testosterone weekend. The Super Bowl is Sunday, and while that always eats into the box office, the top film of the weekend is aimed at guys and should still do very, very well.

Taken has already proven its worth in almost every foreign territory, and the U.S. release is just icing on the cake. This weekend, the Liam Neeson action flick should run away with the box office crown, and ought to break $20 million. Of course, it'll need to do most of its damage on Friday and Saturday, meaning it needs about a $7 million Friday and a $7 - $9 million Saturday to have a realistic shot at that mark.

It won't have much competition; The Uninvited looks more tame than the recent horror flick, The Unborn, and I'm not sure it's built to last. The Renee Zellweger romcom, New in Town will probably be a great big dud. Beyond the new movies, Paul Blart should - astonishingly - challenge the $100 million barrier in a couple weeks.

The unmistakable hit has already racked up just shy of $70 million and $80 million is definitely going to fall by Monday morning. Gran Torino has already made it to nine figures, and the ceiling on this one domestically appears to be the $130 million range.

The Top Five:
1 - Taken ($21 million)
2 - The Uninvited ($14 million)
3 - Paul Blart ($12 million)
4 - Gran Torino ($10.5 million)
5 - Slumdog Millionaire ($10 million)

I, for one, cannot wait to see New In Town. Renee and Harry have great chemistry and it will be a nice respite from all of the heavy cinematic fare of late. Cannot wait to see it! Definitely will not be a dud!

No matter which version I read, I have to disagree with you, Lynn.
