Mickey Rourke Throws in the Towel on Wrestlemania

Mickey Rourke's wrestling career was short-lived. The star of The Wrestler told reporters on Sunday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards that he'd be stepping in the ring at Wrestlemania and by the sound of his comments, he'd be wrestling Chris Jericho.

Then on Monday, Jericho issued a challenge to Rourke on the WWE's Monday Night Raw. Things took yet another turn Tuesday night, when Rourke was a guest on Larry King Live and Suspendered:

All of that leads to news tonight, obtained by Defamer, that Rourke will not appear at Wrestlemania.

"Mickey was very honored to be asked as he has the greatest respect for WWE," the Oscar nominee's publicist told Defamer, "however, he will not be participating in WrestleMania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."

I think we've dodged a bullet, and Mickey has learned another valuable lesson in career reparation: Don't work with Vince McMahon if you could win the biggest honor in your profession. Leave the wrestling to former WCW champion David Arquette.

Wow that went away faster than a 1, 2, 3 count out in the ring. I think Rourke did the right thing and probably got some good advice from Roddy Piper regarding Vince McMahon who's been known to screw people over for his own ends. Jericho was playing the typical WWE character all the way which is kind of sad when compared to his more popular days. At any rate, I think Rourke made the right choice as McMahon would've been thrilled at humiliating him for no other reason than his having appeared in a well regarded wrestling film that McMahon had no part in.
