What Have We Done to Deserve 'Ghost Rider 2'?

"Suck City" reads one of the comments about this story at Bloody Disgusting. Suck City, indeed.

There will be a Ghost Rider 2, because anything worth doing terribly once is worth doing terribly twice. Nicolas Cage will be back, too, according to the Bloody Disgustors, which is neither surprising nor welcome news. I guess if you're a fan of bad hair dye and terrible CGI to make your incredibly vain actor appear buff, it's a banner day, though.

Writers are currently being sought by Columbia Pictures, presumably from one of those rooms where the monkeys will eventually type Shakespeare. There's no release date yet, although we know this much: Whenever it is, it'll be way too soon.

The first Ghost Rider made money, although that's always a bit misleading with bad movies. It made 40% of its money in the first three days, which is higher than the average, and it barely doubled its budget even with the worldwide grosses. If Columbia is stupid, they'll increase the budget, and should that happen, I wouldn't expect a third Ghost Rider; I don't think there's any chance people will support this sequel. The first one made about $45 million on opening weekend, and I think Nic Cage is slumping again and people know it. So I'd say maybe $30 - $35 million for this sequel.

The real shame here is that Ghost Rider is a pretty compelling character outside of the movie. Actually, the real shame here is that I'll have to see this sequel. But maybe second on the list is what they've done to this otherwise well-crafted comic book series.

Is it any surprise any more from Marvel and the mismanagement of their properties?
