Hugh Jackman Joins Zack Snyder's 'Ga'Hoole'
Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:09AM
Out of nowhere, Zack Snyder has become one of Hollywood's most in-demand directors,
with Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen hinting at his expanding range as a mainstream
filmmaker. After Watchmen, he's linked to seven projects as a director, all of them with release
dates before 2012. Can he hit all of them? I doubt it, but that tells you just how big his profile is
getting.

The next film we know he's directing is the animated Guardians of Ga'Hoole, an adaptation of the children's
book series by Kathryn Lasky. Today, The Daily Telegraph provided a little casting news for Ga'Hoole,
reporting that Hugh Jackman and Hugo Weaving will provide voices for the animated adventure, as well as
True Blood's Ryan Kwanten.
Guardians of Ga'Hoole is set in the Forest of Tyto, where the civilization of barn owls that live there
is threatened by something evil...and it's not deforestation. There are 15 books in the series, which has a
Watership Down feel to it, or so Wikipedia says. The film adaptation is set to be released on July
23, 2010.
There's other Jackman casting news, while we're on the subject. He's dropped out of Cleo, an upcoming 3-D
Cleopatra musical directed by Steven Soderbergh, and frankly, who can blame him? Have you heard a worse
idea lately than a 3-D Cleopatra musical starring Catherine Zeta-Jones?
