New 'Thor' Updates

It appears that one of my major questions about the upcoming Thor comic book flick has been answered. I have wondered since the project was officially announced just what form it would take. Thor is, of course, a Norse God, and you have to create an Asgard around him. With green screen technology the way it is, it shouldn't be a problem to make something, but it still has to be pretty precise.

On the flip side, Thor's alter ego is a human, medical student Donald Blake. So suddenly, you have Asgard and America in the same movie, and you've got a giant Thor and a modestly-sized partially disabled man, and you would think they'd have to be played by the same actor. Tricky, tricky.

Now IESB has learned that Thor will take place in the land of the Norse Gods, with a very brief appearance by Donald Blake at the end of the film. It serves two purposes: 1) It's much easier to tell this story without be-boppin' all over the place, and 2) Even though the Asgard stuff is hard to tie into the contemporary world Thor must eventually fit into for The Avengers, using Blake at the end to introduce Thor to a modern Earth should do the trick.

While all of that potentially solves one problem, there's still the matter of making Asgard look believable or at least not entirely campy. Oh, and there's still the lingering issue of who will play Thor. Gotta get that resolved sooner than later.

On another note, IESB says that director Kenneth Branagh will also act in Thor. The site made reference to Jon Favreau's role in Iron Man, but I rather imagine Branagh will allow himself a more substantial role, since he's directed himself - and quite well - for 20 years.

How about Vincent D'Onofrio as Thor? After all, he's done it once before...
