The 'Race to Witch Mountain' Super Bowl Ad

I wonder why it's so damned important for a movie to buy a commercial during the Super Bowl - spending, in this case, $6 million for the privelege - if anyone with an internet connection can watch it for free three days early.

Disney obviously doesn't mind taking the hit, I guess, because they gave MTV the entire Super Bowl spot for Race to Witch Mountain, and here it is:

As much as I think Dwayne Johnson can make a living in this business, I sure would hate to see him become Disney's lovable tough guy. He can do so much better than this. And just from watching the trailer/extended commercial, I have a hunch this won't be as quaint or even as much fun as the original, because it's trying to please parents, too.

Race to Witch Mountain opens March 13th.

The rock is capable of so much more, but these are good fun.
