Friday, January 30, 2009 at 10:26PM DVD Covers and Details for 'Watchmen' Spin-Offs
Now that we know Watchmen is officially happening on March 6th, the deluge of
other products associated with the film will flood the streets beginning next month.
We've previously
reported on the soundtrack and a cool book of portraits from the film, and now Warner Home Video has
released details on the two DVDs set to hit shelves on March 24th, Tales of the Black Freighter and
the Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic.
We now know we're getting a sneak peek at the animated Green Lantern DVD-only feature, although the Warner home videos have done a good
job of pushing future product through high profile releases before (the Wonder Woman DVD featurette
included as part of last summer's Batman: Gotham Knight). There aren't many special features, but
that's because the existence of these two DVDs are already special features.

Here's an official synopsis:

"They're in the book. And on this disc. From the director of Watchmen and 300 come two tales from the celebrated graphic novel that do not appear in the extraordinary Watchmen theatrical feature. Tales of the Black Freighter (featuring the voice of 300's Gerard Butler) brings to strikingly animated life the novels richly layered story-within-a-story, a daring pirate saga whose turbulent events may mirror those in the Watchmen's world. Stars from the Watchmen movie team in the amazing live-action/CGI Under the Hood, based on Nite Owl's powerful first-hand account of how the hooded adventurers came into existence. Two fan-essential stories. One place to watch the excitement. Watching the Watchmen begins here.”Again, the DVDs will be in stores on March 24th, and there are plenty of other Watchmen off-shoots to latch onto before then. Oh yeah - and the movie. How could we forget that?
