Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 3:24AM 'Shrek' Spin-Off, 'Puss in Boots,' Gets a Writer
I'm in complete agreement with Matt Goldberg of Collider, who
writes that Puss in Boots "was the most tolerable part of the Shrek sequels and
that means he needs to be overused and completely ruined as quickly as possible."

I think to everyone's surprise, Antonio Banderas' Pepe le Peu with a rapier
impression stole the second Shrek flick, and though nothing could save the third one, nobody blamed
him. Or they took pity on Banderas because of the whole Melanie Griffith thing.
But shortly after Shrek the Third, it was announced that there would be a fourth Shrek movie,
plus a Christmas special, plus a Puss in Boots standalone. And that was a couple years ago. Well, Goldberg
writes that Puss in Boots has hired Tom "18"
Wheeler to craft the script, replacing three writers who apparently couldn't
crack the enigmatic hero.
We still don't have a release date or other cast members to announce, but at least they're moving forward
with it. Of course, two hours of Puss in Boots may be more than I can take. He's fine in little increments,
but that's more than I can say for Donkey or Shrek at this point. Or Mike Myers or Eddie Murphy, now that I
think about it.
