'The Flash' Gets a Writer...Maybe
Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 12:19AM
Someday, I hope someone will explain the greater appeal of The Flash to me. As comic
book heroes go, I guess he's OK, but to me, he's kind of the Journey of superheroes: Can't argue the success, but
really hard to take seriously.

Maybe I just didn't give him enough of a chance.
For whatever reason, The Flash didn't resonate with me, so the news that they're making or planning to make
a Flash movie doesn't really make me do backflips. IESB recently sat down with Charles Roven, who has co-produced the Nolanverse of Batman movies, so he's got this DC Comics thing in his back pocket, right? Well, not exactly.
Amid rumors that Dan Mazeau has wowed Warner Bros. executives with a Jonny Quest script that led to him taking a crack at The Flash, Roven was tightlipped. "You know, the problem... It’s not only a problem, I can’t really give you any information about The Flash. I can’t even confirm that Dan is on it," explained Roven.
"What I’m saying is, probably for about the last six months or so, the decision was made to really kind of, unless there was a DC character project that was ready to be green lit, to just not talk about it."
That fits in nicely with what David Goyer said about a month ago, that Warner and DC are kind of changing their approach to future films becuase of the success of The Dark Knight, or did you think Roven's six-month window was just a coincidence. DC seems to be taking the anti-Marvel approach, and that could be smart business, since Marvel has seemed in over its head since announcing its Avengers cycle of movies a few months back.
However, something in Roven's wording seems to indicate that Mazeau is writing the script, but he just can't confirm it. It's still scheduled for a 2010 release, but I can't believe that's actually going to hold up.
Am I the only one who can't muster excitement for a Flash movie right now?
