Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 12:09AM Watch More Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts
Earlier in the week, we re-posted one of our favorite videos of 2008, which just happens is now an Oscar nominee. It was the short film Oktapodi, and we promised then that if we could get a hold of more of the nominated animated shorts, we'd present them to you here.

Why animated shorts? Well, for starters, short film is one of the last great domains of independent filmmaking. As a general rule, studios don't produce or distribute shorts (although Pixar produces some to go in front of their features every year), and by and large, when you watch a short, you're looking at a lot of blood, sweat, and tears on top of the creativity that made the idea take life in the first place.
Another cool thing about animated shorts is the different styles of animation you'll see. As far as that's concerned, it's a lot more progressive than the crop of features we see every year.
So here are the three we have to this point, and we're still hopeful that full versions of La Maison en Petits Cubes and This Way Up are funneled our way before February 22nd.

And just because we're on the subject, here's what we have from the other two nominees, about 30 seconds from La Maison and a trailer for This Way Up:
