'Friday the 13th' TV Spot, Plus the Originals go Deluxe Edition
Monday, January 5, 2009 at 3:32AM
It's going to be a busy 45 days for
Friday the 13th. As you probably know by now, Platinum Dunes,
Michael Bay's casa de producción is remaking almost every horror movie it can get its hands on (it opted not
to make Rosemary's Baby). The next one on the chopping block is the slasher franchise that probably
has the worst collection of movies, which is not so coincidentally
Friday the 13th.
The first one is good for what it is, and there
might be two others you could watch in a pinch. That still leaves seven very, very bad horror movies, eight
if you count Freddy vs. Jason.
So the remake is coming on Friday the 13th, which happens to fall first this year in February. We'll also
have March 13th and November 13th fall on Fridays, if you're superstitious about it. The revamped Jason
Voorhees story appears to have eschewed the actual origin story, meaning Jason's all growds up in this one
and there's no Mrs. Voorhees. So really, it's kind of a hybrid of the first two or three flicks in the
series.
The first trailer for this remake is actually quite good, and now there's an accompanying TV ad:
But the remake isn't the only thing happening at Camp Crystal Lake. The first three movies in the original
Friday the 13th ouevre are being re-released as deluxe edition DVDs. For that matter, so are two seasons of the TV series, which had approximately nothing to do with the films.
DVD Town has some of the specs for the movies, if you're interested, which include a few mini-docs about the history and making of the Friday the 13th flicks, plus the DVD for the original contains ten crucial seconds near the end, which I just saw put back in at our International Horror and Sci Fi Film Fest in Phoenix a couple months ago as part of a Q & A with Adrienne King, who played Alice in the first two movies.
The original will be on standard DVD and Blu-Ray, with six featurettes on the Blu-Ray. Part II is basically just the movie and some bonus features. But Part III will have a standard version and a 3-D version, complete with one pair of glasses, which is great if you're watching it alone. Paramount is releasing all of the DVDs on February 3rd.
