The Good News: 'Chun Li' Poster Isn't as Bad as the Trailer

To this point, there sure isn't much to admire about Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. I have no idea if the movie's going to blow me away or not, and now seems to be as good a time as any to clarify that just because we may love a trailer or poster or TV commercial, that doesn't mean we're obligated to love the movie. Similarly, Body of Lies had incredibly bad marketing and was a good film. They're completely separate entities.

But, as it relates to The Legend of Chun Li - yikes. The trailer was hypnotically wretched. That's right - it's so bad, I used a phrase to describe it that doesn't even make sense! And from where I sit, this teaser poster isn't much better. Perhaps it's seeing Chris Klein that's throwing me off...

Kudos to SlashFilm

Of course, being the film that extends the franchise that began with Jean- Claude Van Damme's Street Fighter back in the mid-1990s might have something to do with my expectations for this one being at low tide. But you'd still think if the video game property were worth resurrecting, they'd come up with stuff that looks better than what we've seen so far.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li opens February 27th.
